Just wondering ~

Read this comment on a blog post recently -
and thought it was worth thinking about a bit more.

“Most every service I do
is really more about my own self-inflated ego.”

What about you? Agree? Disagree? Tell me what you think!

  1. but for grace...we would be so motivated
but for grace...we would have no other reason
but for grace...enabling us in our weakness to do what we could not otherwise do -- enabling us to do the uncelebrated and the unlovely
but for grace...we would not be serving a king from a heart of gratitude
but for grace...we would not be changed, when this is our natural course

perhaps our tendancy to be this way is why Jesus said we should not let our left hand know what our right hand is doing when we do a good deed

convicting quote -- b/c it is easy to be this way

  2. I definitely think it's a danger, to serve others to be well thought of or feel better about yourself. As a Christian, I pray that my service is to serve others in the example of Christ, but it doesn't always work that way, if I'm honest.

  3. Isn't one's ego always self-inflated? I mean, I could tell Tim all day that he's doing a great job, but I just don't see him getting a big ego from it.

I guess that's why I've always had trouble with being recognized for whatever I may have done. When I do something for the Lord, I feel it cheapens it if I am given any credit for it. If I'm expecting praise for what I'm doing, I need to seriously ask what my motives are in doing it.
