A 31 Day Grand Prix {day 12} ~ Five Minute Friday ~ Race

Popping over to Lisa Jo's to be a part of this week's Five Minute Friday

"Come join Five Minute Friday because you *are* a writer.

Where a beautiful crowd spends five minutes all writing on the same topic and then sharing ‘em over here. Where we just write without worrying if it’s just right or not.

Now, set your timer, clear your head, for five minutes to just write without worrying if it’s just right or not.

1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community..

Oh and Ahem, if you would take pity and turn off comment verification, it would make leaving some love on your post that much easier for folks!

OK, are you ready? ...Give me your best five minutes on ~ "

Race...

"Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful. They were submissive to their own husbands, like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her master. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear." I Peter 3.3-6
There are so many different directions I could choose go with today's Five Minute Friday prompt. I could consider beautiful biblical analogies of life in Christ as a race to run and finish well. Flip a few pages and I discover race referring to ethnic group or lineage... and even citizenship. It is also possible to scour up at least one Old Testament reference where rage might just as appropriately connote the author's meaning.

Here's what I saw, however, this morning...

"{Gentle} beauty should not come from...

It should be...
Do what is right and
do not give way to fear."

Maybe my eye falls on those words because of the vitriolic fallout I quickly avoid when checking Facebook this morning. Or maybe I'm tired, feeling a little frantic, trying to get presentations planned, lessons planned, menus and schedules planned in order that the nine I'm leaving behind when I fly to Ghana next week won't have a frantic week. Or perhaps it has to do with that earlier conversation, the one where it felt like peddling furiously to try and salvage... then realizing later I just should have said "Bye," suppressing further word to try again another day.

Today, I shall try to rest and be still

...because gentle beauty is. Gentle comeliness comes not from somewhere far away and outside of me. And there's no use striving to attain it. That, in fact, may just defeat the purpose.

A gentle, quiet spirit simply is...

because within, the Holy Spirit is...

giving guidance, wisdom, power and strength to do what is right and to not give way to fear.
