A 31 Day Grand Prix {day 19} - Five Minute Friday ~ Look

Today, from Lisa Jo...

"During the month of October I’m spending 31 days writing about writing.

So it makes sense to spend Fridays doing just that – writing.
Always just for five, unedited minutes.

Why yes, writers like a good flash mob of words. Wanna join?

Want to know how Five Minute Friday got started and how to participate?
All the details are here.

Now, set your timer, clear your head, for five minutes to just write...
without worrying if it’s just right or not.

1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community..

Oh and Ahem, if you would take pity and turn off comment verification, it would make leaving some love on your post that much easier for folks!

OK, are you ready? Won’t you please give me your best five minutes on..."
Look…
"Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful. They were submissive to their own husbands, like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her master. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear." I Peter 3.3-6

My son and his friends love "multiplayers."

They all get together with their computers, hook up through a router and play a game with and or against each other.

It is one of those things that I love and hate all at the same time. I love the fun. I love the hanging out. I love the chatter. I hate the sometimes seeming obsession with the COMPUTER. (That said recognizing I can be as guilty as anyone else of said sin.)

These photos were all taken on one of those nights.

Look like fun?

These pictures, however, don't represent the reality of what that night truly looked like.

These do.

Pretty amazing difference.

That's the difference that comes with a powerful flash of to illuminate... to shed light... on what my naked eye could actually see. Then I could look and see what was really happening.

You see, Bren had invited the guys over... and the power went out... for multiple hours, actually (They actually moved their game over to the studio, which runs off of generator power and continued the fun there...).

God's Word tells us about the same phenomenon....
But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." (1 Sam 16.7)
He said to them, "You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of men, but God knows your hearts. What is highly valued among men is detestable in God's sight. (Luke 16.15)
Do not keep talking so proudly or let your mouth speak such arrogance, for the LORD is a God who knows, and by him deeds are weighed. (1 Samuel 2.3)
And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever. (2 Chronicles 28.9)
If you say, "But we knew nothing about this," does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay each person according to what he has done? (Proverbs 24.12)

Death and Destruction lie open before the LORD--how much more the hearts of men!
(Proverbs 15.1)

God's Word tells us about the same phenomenon....

He looks AND sees. He values the beauty of a gentle, quiet spirit.

And because He is Light, He looks, He sees... so much better than we...

  1. I love (and sometimes hate)how God looks at our hearts. Sometimes I know that were I honest to have Him search my heart, He would come up with ugliness but where I used to hide from Him and try to cover my sin, I now know that only He can cover it, remove it from me and make me quiet and gentle, and pure. I love your analogy of light and dark and what is visible to us. And I have a twelve year old boy and know the love/hate relationship with game obsession. Boys and their games, right? But it's so cute when they're all together in community and having fun.

    1. i think part of a gentle, quiet spirit is sitting still and trusting while God covers, removes, changes...
